Big Boy Bed, Good Tunes and Charity Ball

Yesterday morning I woke up to the sound of little footsteps in the hallway...I got up and found John standing there not sure what to do with his new found freedom! I asked him if he had climbed out, and he so happily said "Yea Mom!" We knew this day was coming...he had figured out some way to get the side down on his crib, which had happened a few times last week. He had no trouble swinging his legs over and hopping out-he showed me after nap time yesterday just how he did it!

So, we headed out yesterday morning for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and to purchase a toddler bed. Our brother in law, Matt Baker, played at the Blue Canoe last night, so we waited until today to put John's new bed up. That way Lauren and Jim (better known as La La and Jim Jim) our sweet neighbors who babysat last night, wouldn't have to try to put him down in his new bed. This was John on his last night in his crib. We couldn't believe this morning was the last time we would get him out of it. As Jason put his new bed together today, he kept saying "Cool Dad, cool!" He and Elizabeth played on it for a while, then nap time rolled around. It took him about 45 minutes to wind down and get settled...but he ended up sleeping two hours! He's had a little trouble going to sleep tonight, but nothing bad. He is so excited to have a big boy bed...and something tells me Miss Elizabeth won't be too far behind!

Jason and I enjoyed a couple of nights out this weekend, too...Friday night was Charity Ball, with the same great 80s cover band as last year (does it get any better?!) And last night we were so excited to be at the Blue Canoe to see Matt open for the band Congress. Matt is an amazingly gifted musician-he has written around 30 songs, and sings and plays guitar. He performed 5 of his originals last night, and the crowd loved him! We were so proud, and can't wait to see what may lie ahead for him.

A busy but great weekend! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

Happy Birthday, Milly!

We had a great time celebrating Milly Addison's second birthday last Saturday. Her party was at Flip Flop Gymnastics-we have never been, but all the kids LOVED it! We are thinking about enrolling John in a class next year, just for fun with movement and exercise. Here's a few photos from the day! The ball pit was a big hit!
The sweet birthday girl!
Elizabeth loved being able to walk around and play on the mats.

Pig Twigs!

I can't believe Elizabeth has enough hair now for pigtails, or pig twigs as we call them! After months of trying to get a bow to stay in, and wearing bonnets, we now have hair we can actually style. :) We need to grow a little more, but it's a start!
Happy February!

Happy Birthday, George!

We had a big time yesterday morning celebrating George Menetre's 3rd birthday! His party was at Fire Station #3, and everyone had so much fun. John loved walking through the fire truck, checking out the controls and high-fiving the firemen. It was a great day (and I can't believe these babies are turning THREE this year! Weren't they just born?!)This sweet girl sat in her stroller most of the time-she was SO good! The sweet birthday boy, George. This is the best photo I could get of him...three year olds are busy! John kept pointing to the side of the truck saying "A three, a three!" Yummy! We learned that firemen are our friends who help us! John loved giving them "knuckles!"

The Older Sister I Never Had

My family has a lot of members-but thankfully, we are close, and extended family doesn't feel extended at all. I am an only child, so my cousins were always like my brothers and sisters. My cousin Leigh is definitely like my older sister. We have always been close, and been through a lot together. I am posting about her today because I would LOVE for her to find a new friendship (or maybe more???) through Kelly's Korner's Show Us Your Life-Singles Over 40 edition. Leigh lives in Clarksdale, MS has taught elementary school for 23 years. She is currently working on her National Boards. Leigh is 43 years old. Her boys, Coleman and Miller, are her life. Coleman is a freshman at Mississippi State University and Miller is a sophomore at Lee Academy in Clarksdale. When Leigh is not busy with her boys and all of their activities (college and high school life, and pretty much all sports-especially FOOTBALL!) she is involved in her church, Oakhurst Baptist. This is a picture of Leigh last spring with my daughter, Elizabeth. She is known to my children as Aunt Leigh! If you would like to get in touch with Leigh, just email me at kepannell@hotmail.com or leave a comment. Have a great day!
