Last night about 9 pm our sweet dog, CiCi, instantly went from being her vibrant, lively self (although it doesn't look like it in this picture) to very weak and unstable. We reached the vet on call, and took her in for blood work and x-rays. The vet found a few small problems, but nothing that pointed in the direction of why she was suddenly so weak. After taking her home and watching her all night, we took her to our regular vet this morning. After more blood work and x-rays, we were sent to the vet school at MSU when nothing specific was discovered. More in-depth tests and scans proved that she had a massive malignant tumor on her spleen that had been develping for a while; it had finally gotten to the point where she couldn't live with it any longer. After much conversation with her doctors, and much thought, we decided to have her put to sleep. Her doctors felt that was definitely the best decision. Although it was very hard and sad for us, we know we made the right decision, and that she lived a fabulous life for her 12 1/2 years. We donated her body to the vet school for students to learn from, since this type of cancer is somewhat rare for her breed.
We are so grateful to have been her family and we will miss her so.
